The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

    1st July 1916

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Found maker and size on the shell EF 68 , have removed a lot of the rust, so paint showing through much nice,r inside of crown very dark green, outside top layer slate grey , next layer is tan or very off white ,and under that very dark green or grey, the split pins are the brass type and more of both decals showing through.

This could be the man. Just having trouble with the first part of the unit 4./Hauptmsch. 1.pol.btl .
He was from wehrkreis XII . So could have started in IR115 which was transferred to 33rdInfantry division. This unit was in afrika,.
