i loved it over on waf and i love it over here
Thanks. I think I will be happy with it. It's in the mail.
i'm happy for the both of you
Silly question, but why are the edges of the massive crack so silver ? It seems to contrast with the relic condition of the rest of the helmet ?
andrew i have a couple of stahlhelm relics that show silver bare metal in this condition ,maybe its down to the ground conditions i dont really know ,nice helmet headgearlover
Regards James
Maybe it was cracked by machinery during excavation?
I also have a relic helmet with one small crack with silver edges, the other cracks are rusty.
It was recovered by an excavator.
I am sure I have also seen this on the WAF last year, I do remember the guy who owned it for other reasons, I dont recal that there was a big crack in however ??
I like it. Nice colors, looks like it will display nicely.
Hi Col James, thanks for the reply much appreciated. Another silly question, but on the German helmets during the war if the paint chipped would a silver/steel patch be visible ? I ask because I am working on a cheap repo for my collection and in places on the rim paint has chipped-off (bad Chinese paint :-) and some silver/steel is showing. I can't decide whether to leave it like this or not ... it looks cool but is it "realistic" ?
