I'm intrigued by the hole in the crown of the M42...looking at the exit-path (outwards)...I almost would suspect it was caused by the wearer shooting himself under the chin into the brain (We had a guy shoot himself like that in my unit, that's why it caught my attention). Any other guesses as to how this damage may have occurred? By the way...I am thankful for your post and the great photos...I am so envious, and wish you continued good luck!

Some times after the visiting some of the strong points I've found a lot of strange items with a lot of holes, I think the helmets was like a baseball balls flying on the field, the battlefield looks like a moon landscape. I've seen bullet damaged helmet, which was reissued with replaced liner- and again the second owner got a shrapnel to the head. Paul E can show some of the pictures of this helmet

Go to agree with Dimas some of the Helmets in the Battle area are severley damaged by both bullet and shrapnel damage making it unlikely that someone shot themselves in the head.

Here is a Norwegian SS Helmet showing various types of damage,

Dimas is this the one or is it one of the others ??

    regards
