One of the intersting things to come out of Relic Helmets for me is seeing the different levels of decay to the Helmet or decals depending on the different ground conditions / soils / water etc .

Here is a great example of a terribly rusted Helmet that retains an amazing decal

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

That’s a pretty cool relic Paul. There is something about decals that’s gives them a certain longevity. Maybe it’s the two layered construction process. Did this one have any liner left?

Just some liner band Andy . Some decals are so well preserved and yet others on Helmets that have survived in much better condition than this one have decals which have deterioted terribly .

    Killer!

This thread, the Stalingrad relics thread, and the Nordic SS Relic thread have served as good eye candy for the past few days.

No new helmets? I've been cleaning up tornado damage for this long without any new helmets to look at? Good golly, find some!
