Relic Luftwaffe Helmet

Hello community.
I´ve finally found the perfect helmet for my small relic collection, its a relic Luftwaffe Helmet with a, for the fact that this helmet was over 70 years in the ground, fairly good conditioned decal. The helmet is a M42 with presumably dark blue paint, and it seems to have been a very small size, as my other M42 with the presumed size 66 can complety enclose this one. The seller claimed it was found buried in the Erz Mountains together with other Helmets including an SS singel Decal Helmet.

I´m not sure if the helmet was ever otherly threated then cleaned, but i´m certain the liner band has never been screwed with and its in the condition it was found.
But i don know if i should do something to stop the rust, as i´m concerned to damage the decal, so ideas how to conserve the piece are greatly appreciated.

Yes. It has been treated. Most likely with Oxalic acid.
