Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
House Carles at the Battle of Hastings

Very nice. I like these relic helmets.

That's a very nice helmet Paul, lovely piece to have in your collection, and even better you have the history of the SS Regt. it was used by! Thank you for sharing...

Very nice, do you ever think of keeping the history of you're helmets? So maybe when you're done with the helmets the history stays with it. Just a thought. You're knowledge of the helmets is important. That should be saved also.

I wonder how it would look like after a bath in oxalic acid.. (spelling)

Looks like it's already had an oxalic bath at some time. If it were mine, I'd be coating in renaissance wax to darken the paint up a little.
Having said that, I love the helmet! The cover clip looks great and adds immensely to the collectability of this piece.

Hi Ian i keep a full history of al the History of Helmets such as this ,including details of the former owner if we can find them out , this one we know exactly who it belonged to . The history also has the photos of when and excatly where it was found and how it is connected , combat wise to that location and excavation ,it was part of a full Archeaological excavation . We are fortunate to have contact with some wonderful Danish and Norwegian historians who provide much information on individulas from Danmark and Norge Regiments.
