Re: Ww2 remain relic helmet
Yea... definitely keep it as it is. That would be like putting cheap flame decals on a Ferrari. O.K., a rusty, old Ferrari, but it would still look stupid.

Ok
Sorry for jumping on you like that but it is from experience. I had a shell that was rusty and by the time I wire brushed it and added filler and painted etcc, etc... I soon realised that I had destroyed any originality or history it once had. It is your helmet to do as you wish but ( if it were up to me ) I would leave it as a great example of a M42 German helmet from the Eastern front with remnants of its original finish?
Best, Dan

Do you think it was a cammo color?

Do you think it was a cammo color?
Probably the original paint has oxidised to this shade - would need close-up photos but the insides seem the same colour too?
Have you given it a scrub in warm soapy water? ...... that is not too intrusive.

I am surprised it didn't come with the fake decals already applied.
Why would you buy a relic only to mess it up with fake decals? Your not getting any historical value buy making this into something it is not. Just buy a reproduction shell then with the fake decals already on it if you want something representative of history and not the real article.
