Components all look original to me. I don't think the liner was the factory installed component and liner pads (doubled up and glued) look funky. I think the liner is original, but was postwar installed and the pads were doubled up because it was too small for the shell. Maybe Terry can weigh in. Just my thoughts based upon my untrained eyes. The shell was heavily scrubbed and shows some pitting. A restored relic? I wouldn't pay top dollar and I, personally, would pass on it and look for an untouched piece.
Hi Jim
We pretty much agree on this and I commented on this same helmet on GHW. Here is what I said there:
Agree with David. Parts are real but all has been fooled with. The paint and decal on the outside have been scrubbed down heavily. Inside, the leather part of the liner appears to be for a size 66 shell rather than 68. Can't quite read the ink stamps in there but that's what it looks like, considering the extra thick rubber pads.. Unless this is cheap and you need parts, I'd pass.
Cheers,
Terry
