Looks late war to me from the rivets , Is it a lake find ?
it is from an old house. it was used to repair the roof. Inside is tar. I think the helmet was over a fire to heat the tar.
A wartime falschirmjager m38 shell converted into a bucket by replacing the screws with blanking rivets and making a wire handle to carry hot pitch for roof repairs would be my guess.
The post war recovery wasted nothing!!!

I clean the helmet. inside is no oxidation only tar, but it is hard to remove.
Nice find, at least it's still in one piece, some were converted to colanders and other housewares.
The tar gives it a camo look😀
