The whole helmet looks crooked. I´m not really experienced in M38´s but judging by the irregularities on the surface i would say its a real overpainted relic?
Maybe it was bend while it was in the ground or something like that.
Definitely looks like it got squished a bit. Seems a bit enlongated

Don't let that restorer near anything worthwhile restoring !
You know I never thought it would be possible to reduce the value of a relic helmet. But that restorer has I think achieved it.
