For what it's worth, I look at these things with the understanding that if I sell it and buy a TV, iPhone, or part of a car, or some other item like that, all that stuff ends up in a junk yard or a garbage dump one day. I have a hard time justifying selling items with eternal value, for the short term enjoyment of items with temporary value. In the end, for me of course, I would only sell such items as this if it is for something of equal value, like to pay medical bills for my son if he's badly hurt, to keep the house, or something of that "last resort" nature. You can always get more money, but there's only one helmet from your grandfather. The retail value is just white noise compared to that.
Just my two cents.
