Just got this minty finnish M38 and I had a nice sunny day to take some pics. The helmet is almost in unissued (1940) condition, named to a certain J. Hölsö (swedish soldier?). Despite the awesome condition it has a frontal (battle?) damage. Very interesting helmet, MÁVAG produced, DM64 marked, originally was withdrawn from hungarian civil defense stocks, you can see the original bluegrey paint under the smooth greygreen finish. Hungarian MÁVAG64 marking has been burnished out and DM64 was stamped over the first one. Nice crispy liner and brass buckle chinstrap.

    Very nice helmet!
Remember that a lot of Fins had Swedish surnames, or both names were Swedish. Not uncommon at all.
Some parts of Finland did not even speak Finnish in the first years of their independence from Russia.

Nice looking lid, shame about the damage to it.

    Very impressive!

Hölsö could also be a name of Finnish origin.

Thank you guys, too bad about the damage but it's telling an interesting story anyway.

A very nice and well preserved helmet. Hölsö is a Finnish surname.

Small battledamage is nothing in mint condition helmet. Its like adding flavor, been there, not just bookshelf decoration at time of greatest need.

I remember seeing one top-shape german style helmet which had shrapnel hit damage in base of the brain (under backside liner hole). No penetration. It was weared by artillery captain in 1944 who got that shrapnel hit to helmet from counter-artillery to their positions, very likely saving him.
