Article about: Hah! Yeah, I am quite proud to have such great men among my ancestors, like many others have. I unfortunately don't have any of his items, though I've began hunting for his closest relatives

These photos were taken by my greatgrandfather Armas Kivelä in 1941-1944 in Northern-Karelia (next to Lake Ladoga). When the war started in 1941, he was a corporal. When he got wounded in 1944, he was a Second Lieutenant Technic Engineer (Constructions master by civil profession). He got awarded medals of freedom first, second and third class, along with Winter War commemoration medal: Home Guard.

These pictures have been taken by some other relatives of mine, before the war. The soldier seems to be from Suojeluskunta?

These photos are excellent, thank you for sharing! The photo of the exact same crashed bomber is also in the SA-kuva site . I can link that if you are interested. Also the photo of the Finnish flag being hoisted, with planes flying over the gate is really aesthetic.

Also very nice photos! I'm not sure about Suojeluskunta, as I can't see any arm shields. So it's either Suojeluskunta or SA . The second lieutenant in the second photo seems to be wearing collar tabs of Jäger troops.

The flag photo is very nice . I will link the bomber photo to you via PM, it was a Russian bomber that crashed near an electrical plant at the river Svir, if I remember correctly.

My great-grandfathers company at Kiestinki, 1941-1942. His regiment got surrounded and was in the famous "Kiestingin motti", Encirclement of Kiestinki. The regiment was JR 53 (Infantry Regiment 53).

My great-grandfather can be seen first from the left, on the upper row.
