    Hey everyone,

I'd like to share my Russo-Japanese War Medal that recently found its way into my collection, since the Japanese section isn't as busy as the rest . I like the character in it, and I think it has the perfect amount of wear. I especially enjoy the fade of the obverse of the ribbon. Hope you all enjoy!

And I like the "characters" on it: ancient seal-script!!

    明治二十七八年戦役
    Meiji Nijushichi-hachi Nen Seneki.

Meiji 27-28 Campaign (alternate name for the First Sino-Japanese war; 1894-1895)

    [Edit]
    WAIT!!!!! that's a 37-38 -- Russo-Japanese War -- 1904-1905
    明治三十七八年戦役

The old-style of writing 20 is placing two 十 [kanji for 10] side-by side: 十十; for 30 it was 十十十 -- this is what is on your medal.

    Sorry for my initial confusion.

Indeed. The older styled kanji is more elaborate and pleasing to look at . I do find it quite a bit more challenging to decipher when I barely know the modern script, haha. Another interesting aspect of this medal to me is that the treaty that ended the war was signed only a few miles away in my state at the Portsmouth Navy Yard.
