Today, I passed a UV black light, through the flag and does not react, it does not shine under UV light.
This is good news, it gives me more security, that is original WWII.
If it was false, the fabric shines brightly .....

This is indeed good news for you. The flags must have very well looked after over the years. My example is dirty, stained and faded. It is only slightly larger than a sheet of A4 paper. But I like it because it takes up very little room on the wall.

Nice "meatballs"! I like the one w/ a sunburst in writing, but I would probably get the bloodstained one due to the conversation value it holds. The helmet on my avatar has a bloodstained liner. Nice pick up!

Here's a picture of my small prayer flag. It measures just 20X30cm.

    Hi Alan,

It was one of my 'better' finds on ebay about a year ago. I have it in a bamboo coloured frame. My daughter (sad as she is) thinks it is brilliant, and she want wants me to leave it to her when I snuff it.

My friend, states most fakes are Chinese ,not Japanese . certainly the first flag has modern ill defined calligraphy ,but the second is good.

Hopefully collectors have become a little more flag savvy since this thread from 2011. The first flag everyone loved at first sight is a shocking piece of garbage without a single word of Japanese, done by a Westerner so unskilled that even the Sea Bees would not want him for Tojo flag production.

This first flag demonstrates poorly formed kanji-gibberish and fake blood stains. It is possible from time to time to see blood stains that may have been created from a combination of chocolate bars, ink, and/or ketchup. Not sure what this stain is made from but would doubt from the photos that it is human blood.
