Hello Type 4,I have a similar example made of rubberized canvas.I would love to find the matching box with the oiler and a bayonet frog!

This set is made with the "Ears" made as a strap rather than on the lid of the box..

I agree. These are on ebay quite a bit and I think the ones with the 'over the top' strap were a later improvement on these early pouches.
I like pouches too!
