    Hi gentlemen!
I bought this katana in a flea market here in Brazil, one year ago. But I know nothing about it.
I wonder if it's a good piece, with good historical value and if it is possible to find an approximate date of manufacture.
In short: looking at the images what can you tell me?
Many thanks for such a spontaneous help and sorry my bad english.
    Regards from Brazil,
    Gustavo

It appears to be an honest Edo period blade in civilian mounts. Nice one.

Many thanks for the reply, SteveR!

One more question, if you allow me: what you mean by "in civilian mounts"?

Any idea how much is a sword like that cost?

    Regards from Brazil,
    Gustavo

"Civilian mounts" means not mounted as a military sword [gunto]:

A good call from Steve. The blade would have to be studied in hand to determine an approximation of age. The mounting is likely mid 19th century. The katana could only be worn by an individual of the samurai class. Ergo, the meaning of civilian mounts(not military).

Umpossible to accurately answer as these are hand made items and evaluated on the quality of the work and the presence or lack of flaws. It would need an in hand examination.
