The key for me of a piece being period would be that the signatures were all signed by a different hand. In my opinion, it would be too much work for a faker to get 50-60 different people to sign a flag.
The only problem I have with this is that I really find it difficult to decipher changes in handwriting styles with the japanese writing! I think you have a real skill being able to do that!

    Hi guys

Here is the flag I bought - would truly appreciate thoughts on its authenticity, and if considered authentic, any translations would be superb.

    Thank you!

Ps. Sorry the main pic of the flag should be landscape but every time I upload it it comes out portrait.

Me too. I notice a LOT of Taira surnames.

Really, you ought to have opened a new thread on the flag so it will not detract from the first flag.

    Hi guy

Sorry I should have made it clearer - this is the flag that the thread is about. I took the plunge and purchased it and these are the pics I took myself today.

What's a Taira surname? Are you able to decipher anything else? Thank you.

    Taira is a family name.

Nice looking piece and while the names are circled, making reading challenging from any angle, I believe this is the primary orientation of the flag.
