Default Help Needed With Japanese Bayonet

I have been looking to expand my collecting into Imperial Japanese Militaria, and I found this nice looking bayonet online.
If this is an obvious fake, I am very sorry for my ignorance, but it is being sold by a reputable dealer, so I thought that if it is fake it would not be very obvious.

It is not a fake bayonet. Others will tell you more about it.

As Type4 said it is National Denki but also it is made under Kokura supervision (as indicated by the 3 circles attached to the center circle). So basically a sub-contracted bayonet.

Straight contoured wood wrap around grips with rivets. Straight contoured crossguard (without the hooked quillion). The blade with fuller appears to be Blued but can't be sure from the photos. And it has a birdshead flatsided pommel.

    So a later made bayonet.

Condition is OK. And it is missing the frog. Not sure what these go for these days.

This is my go to guide. It's old but pretty accurate.

Check out our sponsor Griffin Militaria. He has a number for sale as well. You can also usually find these quite easily at shows.

It is a very common bayonet, the blade has been resharpened (not desirable and poorly done to boot), The left wood grip is dicked up, the scabbard looks right for this time frame but has lots of wear on the finish. IMHO if you really want a good bayonet I'd wait and look for another one.

If you just want ONE then look over web based reference material to help you buy ONE. If you want to move into collecting some number of Japanese bayonets then buy a book, read it, study it and then buy your first bayonet. You only need to buy one book. The author is Ray LaBar.

So have fun! Great items to collect
