I always like looking at Officers with swords. It makes me wonder what kind of blades they have in the mounts.

Yeah, Steve! I asked my father-in-law what blade he carried, but he said it was so long ago that he didn't remember.

He ended the war as a captain. He also attended the Toyama Military Academy and was familiar with "Toyama Ryu Iai", and had 2nd rank in kendo ... so I'll bet it was a good blade. His elder brother was Lt. Col .... I know for certain they were in a position to afford nice blades.

    /tangent ....

Back on target. If the original poster can provide clearer images of the writing, we'd be able to get a good translation. As it is now, I think only a native-speaker of Japanese will be able to read through the fuzzy writing.

    Hi exkoon-san,

I can able to identify the right photos' writings:

姫路第十師團長 蒲中將 (Himeji Dai Jyuu Shidann-Chou Ho Chuujyou) - Himeji (Hyōgo District) 10th Division Commander Lieutenant General Ho. Not sure about his name, but is the closest I can get.

I can only make partial identification of the left photo:

姫路xx第三十九聯隊長 xxxx 大佐 (Himeji xx Dai Sanjyuu-Kyuu Rentaichou xxxx Taisa) - Himeji (Hyōgo District) xx 39th Regiment Commander Colonel xxxx.

    Hope they help.

    Regards,
    Taka

    Hi exkoon-san,

The name of the 39th Regiment Commander Colonel is 三樹男 - Mikio Tsutsumi.

I found out that he was the Commander of 68th Division (China) from July 1st, 1944 ~ Surrender.

    Cheers!
