Excellent. Thanks Guy. After my post, I did a bit of digging / searching and found this out to. Once you identified the character, I now learned you can search in google using Kanji. I'm getting old!

Your guess is correct. 明 for Meiji, 大 for Taisho, 昭 for Showa, 平 for Heisei.
