    Hi Bill-
    Stu has done an excellent job of describing what is needed. Your present pictures show a shiny blade with an indistinct temper line. Cut down on light and no flash. Judgement from the current pictures only indicate a factory made non traditional blade. Taking good pictures of a blade takes practice and patience.

    Default Navy Sword Update

    Update.
    I removed the Menuki (clockwise) with all the care of a surgeon.
    With just the lightest pressure the handle slid off.
    The only marking I could find was on the hand guard just under the Seppa. (see picture)
    Interesting logo of some sort manufacturer?
    I returned all pieces to their original positions and all is beautiful again.
    I have really been learning on this one!
    Please any input would be great!
    Thanks for your help in getting me this far

    That last photo shows the Suya Shōten Co, LTD. stamp -- it looks like a harp {below, far left}

    Indeed it is the Suya Shōten Co. stamp and the blade, while in fantastic condition, still appears to me to be plated with a false hamon.

    I agree with Stu. Nothing has changed my opinion that this is a plated blade with artificial hamon
