A good looking IJA Tropical Sun Helmet.
Searching for a IJN version but they are hard to come by.
Thank you for sharing.

These are great, what a great find, would love to add one of these to my tropical collection.
Cheers

Damn, every time I see this I get angry with myself-- a dealer at market offered me two tents and a hot weather cap for 200 and I didn't have the cash
To me these are "helmets". This particular variation has interior loops on edges & was designed to clip on over steel helmet
Yup, that's 100% true. However 防暑帽 or "hot weather cap" is what it says in the Army manual, Depot specifications and veterans' memoirs.

Actually, due to the stiffness of the material, these head gear pieces are a little bit of Both! They could accurately be called "lightweight cloth helmets" or "Heavy weight cloth Caps" just as easily! Either way you look at them, they are Excellent pieces and are Extremely collectable! It's nice to see one in great condition as this one is!

I'm fairly confident "hat" is somewhat lost in translation. Regardless, the Japanese were influenced by British "sun helmets' or as we call them pith helmets. Call it what you may. The fact is it more resembles the model/type 90 steel helmet (not a coincidence) than it does the cloth field cap. Curious as to how the standard cloth field cap is referred to?
Trop helmet/hot weather cap=防暑帽
防暑=Anti heat
帽=short for 帽子, hat or cap
Field cap=略帽/戦斗帽=Fatigue cap/Combat cap
略=Abbreviated "not formal"
戦斗=combat
Simply a case of semantics....not really of any importance... It's a nice piece of Head Gear.....
