Japanese compass

I picked this up a few months ago in Japan. I looks period but I don’t think it is military issue but I would be interested to know if this would have been a private purchase item or any other thoughts.

I can’t take the compass out, because the stitching is very weak.

I can't say if its military or not but I like the way the leather protects the compass like a built in shock absorber! Here is a pick of one I found years ago I'm not positive it is military either.Regards,Geoff

Thanks Geoff, I'm fairly sure it's not military, but don't think it would look out of place in a display. Yours does look a bit more in the military style, there was probably a thriving business in these sort of items for enlisted soldiers.
