Default japanese flag with the word "Noshiro"

I have owned this for 30 ears. A few days ago someone finally gave me some info on it as follows: "This is a japanese flag with the word "Noshiro" in hiragana. Im assuming this is from the Japanese cruiser Noshiro which served with the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II". Were these given to the sailors? I bought this in New Jersey and would love more info. All stitched together. no glue..

I'm sorry, but in my opinion that is a fairly modern naval ship displayed on that flag, and I really wouldn't think it is from WW2. It's still an interesting item to have though!

I agree. I have never seen one of these before, but I have a collection of Japanese textiles and I would say the style and materials here appear distinctly postwar, and thats a modern ship on there.

Thanks for the input. Just hate having something cool and not knowing what it is.
