    Default Japanese Hand Grenade

Hi everyone, I bought this grenade yesterday for £60 which seemed like a very good price for one of these. It is missing some parts of the fuse and I have made a replacement pin for it. It appears to be dated 1941. Can anyone tell me if the removable top section of the grenade should be painted red? Also does anyone know where I can get a real or reproduction fuse cover? Any help appreciated. Doug

My type 97 still has remnants of red paint on the top cover so i'd say yes..as for replacement parts im not sure..with a bit of time and patience you could certainly make your own from sheet brass

Mine is red as well. I have the top cover. If you need I can take a picture of it as an example.

Mine even has some remaining flakes of the Nitro inside....LoL...

Thanks very much, if you could show me some pictures of yours I would be grateful. I especially need to know if the red paint is over the black paint or if it was painted red onto the bare metal.

Nice grenade. A useful site for spares is... dugup. Click on WAREHOUSE 13 at the bottom right corner. It might be worth ringing them up to see if they have what you want.

    Cheers,
    Steve.

    Douglas,

Here are some pictures. As far as I can tell the red paint is OVER the black paint. Also took some pictures of the fuse parts just in case you need to find a missing part as well as the wire pin. I think my pin is original but not sure.

Also for kicks, a pic of the inside with some of the nitro flakes still in there...

BTW...I looked through my records. I bought this in 2012 or so for $100.
