Japanese Helmet Help

I just purchased this combat helmet shell, and was hoping someone could help me with the kanji on the rim. The photos were taken in direct sunlight. Thank you very much.

Looks like a nice helmet shell in a large size.

Is the star painted white or is that just reflection from the sunlight?

The rule of thumb is the words are usually names. This time it's no exception.

菅原 (Sugawara) is a surname. 宮坂 (Miyasaka) is another surname. I guess that the helmet was shared by two guys.

The name in the middle could also be 宮堀 Miyahori. The word is not clearly written. It goes both ways. Mr. Google shows 宮堀 14 million hits; 宮坂 4.8 million hits.
