Japanese Helmet WWII

Article about: Stitching and non factory marked pads indicate it is a IJN helmet. The size also supports this.

    Matt,

    I'm asking for native-speaker help on another forum. Those guys are VERY good. I'll let you know what they say.

    The kanji are
    魏 翹

    Possibly two individuals wrote the kanji. One of the native-speakers said each ideogram was written by a different hand: top one nicely done; bottom sloppy .

    (Looks like the same hand to me .... but I'm not a native-speaker.)

    Direct translation from my on-line dictionary:
    • 【ぎ】[gi] (n) Kingdom of Wei; State of Wei (China);
    • 【あきら】 Akira (g) 【ぎょう】 Gyou (g) NA

    No native speaker yet has ventured a guess as to the meaning.
    =======
    I checked a Chinese-language translator:
    Wei (also a surname)
    qiáo (to raise/warp)

    Sorry -- that's all I can report.

    OK, with this new information is it possible that this helmet was re-issued to Chinese troops? The Imperial insignia has been removed and there is a reference to China in the liner. NH

    Neil, if you're referring to the two kanji I translated ~ there is a misunderstanding that is not your fault. The kanji were on the wood core of a gunto sheath, not the helmet.

    No, no, no. Not your fault; a new thread should have been started to avert misunderstandings.

    if it is naval landing force helmet ,it might be worth trying to find the anchor and cherry blossom insignia badge to complete the exterior at least
