A genuine IJA offcier's katana. It appears to have a contemporary factory made blade. If you can show us the tang, more information can be given to you. If you show the tang, it should be shown in it's entirety with the but at the bottom and the end towards the point at the top.

I think the sword may be good but i do agree with Thomas something does not look right. For me it is the scabbard I would like to see more pictures. Marty

Hi,
Just wanted to point out that the chape, end of the scabbard, was manufactured to be the kabuto-gane, the pommel of the hilt. Whether the original owners idea or a post war thing who can say.

I've learned never to say never with these but it's certainly not "textbook" and in my view requires further analysis. I look forward to seeing more photos.
