He was told it might be off a sub?

I have no idea about items such as this, so any info, tag details etc, would be most welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Adrian-san,

What your friend has is an IJN magnetic compass. Great item there!!!

It might came from any ship, or may be even used on bombers, flying boats.

    Translations:

90式磁氣羅針儀二型改一 (Kyuu- Maru shiki Jiki Rashinn-Gi Ni Gata Kai Ichi) - Type 90 Magnetic Compass Type 2, Mod. 1

三號 羅盤 (San-Gou Raban) - No. 3 Luopan (Compass)

製造番號 (Seizou Bangou) - Manufacture Number

舞鶴海軍工廠造兵部 (Maizuru Kaigunn Koushou Zou Hei Bu) - Maizuru Naval Factory Armory Department

昭和 18 年 12 月製造 (Shouwa Jyuuhachi Nenn Jyuuni Gatsu Seizou) - Shouwa 18 (1943) Dec Made

    Cool item to own !

    Regards,
    Taka
