Will leave authentication to others but I don't think there should be a serial type number on the Habaki.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated
My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

I was interested until I saw the serial number on the habaki, and a close look at the blade seems to indicate damascus steel. If so, it has been artificially aged. First impression - Chinese fake, or simply Chinese in origin. The kanji look fake, though.
Better experts should be heard from though.
Overall I think it's a better than usual fake. It can't decide whether it's a Tachi (two suspension loops) or a Katana (side pocket for a kodzuka). The build quality is poor, for something that purports to be a high class item as a Tachii is by definition. The killer though is the poor Nakago or tang. On a real Japanese sword of any kind this is always well made, crisp lines and the flat planes finely finished, and this one is not.
Quick Made modern product to me as well. No value even as wall hanger considering condition.
