japanese sword maker help

sorry about the pics I can not rotate them the right side is the bottom.just acquired this cheaply, just as well someone has totally ruined it by grinding it down, the blade is now narrower and a bit shorter and the scabbard painted black but I am curious about the blade if army or family.

That would be my assumption as well. Can you show a photo of the entire sword?

I will get some more pictures tomorrow, but it was really messed with. maybe just the blade is no good
