Yes Mr Taka ...quite helpful!!......the third photo down from the top shows such seriousness in the pilots face. A face that actually is looking forward to giving his life for the Emperor and Country. Such great photographic reference!!

Serious on the outside but nervous and "scared" inside. It's really hard to imagine that they have to make serious or "happy" faces in front of the camera before the suicide missions. I can only think that if those young individuals were able to survive, imagine they would be grown up as scientists, doctors, business men, teachers, or good fathers.....which would provide tons of contributions to the society. But what makes me uncomfortable is that when people heard or say Kamikaze, many think of "crazy people" killing themselves with planes. Lots of people does n' t really know the truth behind Kamikaze. A really complex history so to speak.....

Mr Taka I am most grateful for your contributions to this thread which are invaluable.........If you may endulge us more so to speak ...on the true meaning of kamikaze..so we in the collecting community here..will not put ourselves in the same category of those not knowing the true meaning. There is much "myth" and "mystery" behind the name and the individual. If you may please give a brief summary so as not to waste too much of your time. Most of what we read so far from the conversation between you and GHP has never been read or heard of before except by those who are staunch collectors and historians as yourselves.... For ourselves..we only know about the individual militarily...but not knowing the pilots state of mind and culturally.
We look forward to more of your knowledge and insight on the pilot himself..with greater hopes and understanding that the headband and the pilot himself can be connected.
Too many people in modern day adorn the headband on their heads at partys and sports rallies never really knowing the meaning..but in their un-researched minds as being crazy and suicidal. This enigma also continues to haunt the non- collector of the Third Reich era..as being ignorant to the fact of what the swastika meant...we look forward to more of your insight into this subject of the Kamikaze. I for one have been fascinated by this thread and the excellent descriptions given,and it would be a great learning tool to delve deeper into the individuals mindset when joining the'Divine Wind',also with regards to the item posted, it really is a very nice piece of Japanese wartime history,especially when you consider the price paid, congrats Larry

Regarding 特別攻撃隊 [特攻隊 - Tokkotai] I'm certain you are aware ... but many are not ... about the "crouching dragons": 伏龍 Fukuryu. I'll look for the article my friend wrote. He is a diver (hard-hat & scuba) who is very interested in the subject. When I was at Yasukuni, I took a photograph of the statue for his article.
