I picked this up at an estate sale years ago. Having always wanted one, I was more than happy to take it home, even if the condition was less than desirable. I tried my hand at translating it once, but all I was able to make out was the kanji for village, I think. So any help would be great.

    Sei-Fu Ban-ri
I'm not certain I selected the correct pronunciation of "Sei" for "Star" which is the second kanji in "Tenno" [Heaven Star, i.e.: Emperor]
Ban-ri means ten-thousand ri [miles]. The Great Wall of China is called Ban-ri no Chou-jo [10,000 mile castle]

I think it means something like Imperial Wind [for] 10,000 Miles

Many thanks Guy! It has always bugged me that I couldn't figure out what any of it said. The flag has had a rough life before I acquired it. I had hoped to frame and display it with some bayo's, but worry that it will fade even more than it already has. I'll figure something out, it's a shame to have it folded and stored wher no one can see it.

    Thanks again,
    Jim

You can buy glass that will help to keep it from being faded by sunlight or phosphoresce (it is spelled incorrectly but you know what I mean). Richard Really nice to see a real one.
