Naval Barometer..?

I have this barometer which is supposedly Japanese Naval issue, could anyone tell me what the characters mean..? Its a very nice instrument, well built and seems to be in good working order, I would be very pleased if it did indeed turn out to be of Military origin.......any Japanese speakers that could help please.....Thanks.

Hi , well fist of all the tag has a naval anchor stamp , which you obviously have seen and it also shows a date which is Showa 18 which is 1943 and shows the month of December , so looks good to me . Taka or Guy will be along soon to translate the kanji on the face

Thanks Alan, the anchor symbol is a good clue yes, although not knowing anything about Japanese Naval markings I assumed that it could also be a civilian marking, thanks for your info on the date, is Showa a Japanese character for year ??

This Showa era corresponds to Emperor Hirohitos reign ( December 25th 1926 to January 7th 1989 ). Dating is counted from 1926 , but with with 1926 counted as year 1 , therefore Showa 18 equates to 1943 , hope this helps .

The first kanji for empty/air can also be used for "atmospheric" in some cases [空中電気 atmospheric electricity; 空気酸化 atmospheric oxidation] ... so instead of "aerial", perhaps it is "atmospheric utensil/container barometer"
