Article about: That is a great possibility..as in the Edged Weapons Forum..we encounter endless mismatched knives and bayonets..to their scabbard counterpart..I would not doubt that the same thing happened

Question NCO Gunto (?) in Java. Should i buy this?

Hello dear collector, im planning to buy this NCO gunto (?) in here after i see this ad on the local antique blog:

As you can see, there's no handle nor handguard left and there's some rust and patina in this sword too. But the price is really cheap though.
And when i researching this, i cant decide about that scabbard. The shape near the handguard is different compared with the standard NCO scabbard. Maybe its a last ditch gunto?
    So should i buy this?
Thank you in advance and really appreciate with the help.

From the images, it is difficult to acertain that this is even a Japanese blade. The sword appears to be straight with no curve which is uncommon for a Japanese sword. It certainly is not any form of "last ditch" manufacture. The tang appears to be crudely formed. I can't make any judgement except it does not appear to be Japanese.

    Hello feldgrau33,

If you have not done so already perhaps have a look at the pinned thread regarding Type 95 NCO swords located at the top of the Japanese forum. It might provide some insights and assist you in your search for a good example for your collection.

    Regards,
    Stu

Owning gunto is one of my five dream as collector. But i guess owning it with cheap way in the same time is almost impossible.
