How is that star attached, I wonder? It might be possible to simply take that thing Off of it and have a fairly decent helmet....unless the seller has done something stupid like drilling a thundering big Hole through the shell to put this thing on it...

I think you might have to replace the retaining rivet (?) that was once there. Either that or you have a hole that will be showing.
My first impression is that it is either Korean or Manchurian (maybe even Taiwan) because of the plum blossom. Can't find anything on the 'net just yet, but I'm still looking.

It's a very common civilian/last ditch/homeland defense helmet. The insignia is likely a school, civic organization or para militaria
That's the best I have heard I've never seen one with a flower before
I have seen these civil helmets with all sorts of insignia.
