Need Help with Translation - Japanese Sword "Tachi"?

It does not make sense for two pair of menuki to be in one sword handle. i have handled thousands of swords and have never seen two pair in a handle. It is interesting that they are both the same motif in different finishes. It is likely over the years, the man's memory has played some tricks on him.
