    So I picked up what I think is an authentic police sword. What do you guys think. Like I said I am new to this so please be gentle if its not. Also I have done some research so any other help would be great. Thanks again.

    It is not police but a Imperial Japanese Army junior officer's parade sword.

    Thanks Bob. Like I said I am new to this, I will be doing alot more research so I don't get hosed like I have before on WW2 German items. Thanks again.

    For years, this pattern sword was mistakenly identified as a "police sword." Just like the IJA model 1944 pattern sword was mistakenly identified as a "Japanese Marine " sword.

    If you are focusing on Japanese swords used by the IJA/IJN during the wartime years, a good reference would be:
    Swords of Imperial Japan 1868-1945 Cyclopedia Edition by: Jim Dawson
    A little expensive but a great reference book to have in your library.
