Thought it was type 45 ?
I wasn't sure and checked Collectors Guild before I posted, they list them as M38, but I checked the Heitai book when I got home and they are listed as type 45. Do you know when they were introduced?

1921 is the date of manufacture, the 38 or 45 is the type or model of cap commonly linked to the year of design, for Japanese items this linked to the year of the Emporer's reign, in this case 38 would 1905, 45 would be 1912.

1920 is the year of manufacture and 1921 is the issued year.

From 1921 it has to be a Type 45 cap, the so called 'yellow uniform'. I bought a pair of puttees from a Japanese dealer when I started collecting who said they were for the yellow uniform, compared to later versions the quality is very high. It's a nice cap!
