I can't make out the full poem, so there are some errors here .... but it's something like this:
乗りふ礼し愛馬を殊さし一しすく
"Ride without being impolite while taking special care of your dear horse"

The colored kanji/kana are the ones I'm guessing at.

The term 愛馬 "aiba" literally means "love horse", but implies Favorite Horse.

I look forward to Nick correcting my errors.

Thanks very much Nick! And thank you as well Guy! I appreciate the help from you both in deciphering the kanji for those of us with no ability to do so, like myself.
My daughter is getting quite an interesting collection amassed while she toils away in college!
