Hi there Steve , the signature is Kaneyuki . Can you show better close ups of both sides of the whole tang please ? The chiselling looks a bit strange but it needs better close ups

From what little I can see it looks to be machine made. Which means modern or repro. That why it would be nice to see the whole sword. Marty

It's not military issue, the leather cover on the scabbard would make a person lean to thinking military. I feel that it is a Chinese reproducing, my opinion only. Not up to the Japanese standards even for late war swords. Marty

It is not Chinese.
It is an old blade in semi military mounts.
