    Default Type 98 Officer's Coat ?

    Hi Guys,

I bought this officers' coat in China recently, and would like to know if it's a Type 98.

This coat was a private purchased piece.

Made by 東京都屋洋服店 (Tokyo To Ya Youfuku-tenn) - Tokyo City Clothes Shop

Another question is about the stylized weaving near the cuffs, are these for higher officials? (Photo #4)

    Thank you in advance.

    Regards,
    Taka

In Showa 13 regulations sleeve insignia of 10mm was established for Officers/Generals while 4mm for NCO for coats. This was expanded upon in Showa 18 regulations (type 3) with application to tunics and addition of rank stars.
This coat would be an officer coat made during Showa 5 with the sleeve insignia added later or a T98 coat with sleeve insignia installed from the start.

    Thank you, Jareth-san.

Now I'm able to find some Japanese or other military stuff in China, surprisingly.

Some are quite expansive, and some are pretty cheap.

At least there are some thing for me to hunt here.

    Hi Taka-san,

Is that an Imperial Guards crest on the button reverse? Guards related, or just because the manufacturer thought, "this looks cool"?

    Hi Guy-san,

One of the buttons fell off, and I realized there are some engravings.

Yes, they are neat, but I know noting about Imperial Guards Crest.

    Wakarimasen.... (I don't know)

    Cheers!

    Hi Taka-san,

The Imperial Guards crest was the five-pointed star within a laurel wreath:

I think these are the modern Imperial Guard -- no longer military; they are police. Note the cap badge is the same motif, but the star is larger and the wreath smaller than pre-1945.
