Type 98 Officer's Coat ?

Article about: Hi Guys, I bought this officers' coat in China recently, and would like to know if it's a Type 98. This coat was a private purchased piece. Made by 東京都屋洋&#

    It does look like it, great quality made buttons. I wonder if all Type 98 officers' coat buttons are like that.

    It might be coincidence? Rich Catalano states that one of the badges on that page had a symbol similar to the Imperial Guards, but it was coincidence. I guess the design on the button just might be because it looks "cool"????

    Since they were private purchase, the maker could put whatever it wanted on it as long as it was in good taste, and many makers would etch military motifs on the backs of buttons (you can see this sort of thing in almost everything they had to buy, like stars on mapcases and so on) even though there were no regulations for it. They did whatever they thought looked "cool". The young officer fashions dictated that little touches like this were essential for the fashionable junior officer. Of course some people were less sentimental, if I remember correctly my Showa 5 era officer coat has only ventholes and no patterns on the back.
