NORMAN ALFORD
The funeral will be Oct. 5 for life-long Eugene resident Norman L. Alford, who died Oct. 2 of heart failure. He was 74. He was born June 2, 1920, in Eugene, and attended Eugene schools. He married Mona Forncrook on June 21, 1941, in Vancouver, Wash.
During World War II, Alford served with the Army's 640th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He was later employed as a tire recapper and worked for more than 30 years at Retread Tires Shop in Eugene. He was a lifetime member of the Eugene Elks Lodge No. 357, and he enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Alvin of Springfield; a daughter, Marilyn of Beaverton; two brothers, Alvin of Springfield and Richard of Winchester; a sister, Enola Burke of Springfield; seven granchildren and three great-grandchildren. Wednesday's graveside service will be at 3 p.m. at West Lawn Memorial Park in Eugene. Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.
