    NORMAN ALFORD
    The funeral will be Oct. 5 for life-long Eugene resident Norman L. Alford, who died Oct. 2 of heart failure. He was 74. He was born June 2, 1920, in Eugene, and attended Eugene schools. He married Mona Forncrook on June 21, 1941, in Vancouver, Wash.
    During World War II, Alford served with the Army's 640th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He was later employed as a tire recapper and worked for more than 30 years at Retread Tires Shop in Eugene. He was a lifetime member of the Eugene Elks Lodge No. 357, and he enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Alvin of Springfield; a daughter, Marilyn of Beaverton; two brothers, Alvin of Springfield and Richard of Winchester; a sister, Enola Burke of Springfield; seven granchildren and three great-grandchildren. Wednesday's graveside service will be at 3 p.m. at West Lawn Memorial Park in Eugene. Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

    After a few closer looks, the owner was in 海軍 山田部隊 (Kaigun Yamada Butai) - Navy Yamada Unit. However, I couldn't make out his name.

    A few more tid bits of info.....

    640th Pacific

    Established December 19, 1941 at Camp San Luis Obispo, CA, from personnel of the 143rd Field Artillery California National Guard. Originally a Light Towed Battalion, they shipped from San Francisco, port of embarkation on Sep. 4, 1942 and arrived in Hawaii on Sep. 12, 1942. Arrived Guadalcanal on Feb. 5, 1944, New Britain on May 3, 1944 and the Philippines on Jan. 9, 1945. Unit was attached to the 1st Cavalry, 24th, 43rd & 44th Infantry Divs. Inactivated on Jan. 13th 1946 at Camp Anza, CA

    I'm fairly certain his last name begins with "house", and the following character looks like "no" .... but there are no "Ieno" families that I could find on Google. Could the be a sloppy [ta/da - rice field]? There IS a family name "Ieda"
