Hi
someone was actually able to translate it ( Yoshi Aki) I take it that's the name of the owner?
Here is a pic from the right angle
I did my best trying to photograph this but I just could not get the right angle and lighting for it to come out
thanks again for the help
I really appreciate it
Tony
Ah! Now I don't have to stand on my head.
Yes, I can faintly see
義明
Yoshiaki
Yoshiaki would be the swordsmith, not the owner. The only gunto smith by that name I can find is
三品 義明
Mishina Yoshiaki
source
EDIT: Also, I can faintly see "Mishina" above the signature. Faint, but if you know the kanji, you can follow the darker lines. No, it's not like finding the Virgin Mary on a burned piece of toast .... you can actually see:
三
品
義
明
