    Hi there

Doesn't look like the standard pattern - the scabbard certainly isn't - the markings on the blade as well aren't right.

    Info here:-

Military Swords of Imperial Japan (Gunto)

Does it have any history ?

    Regards

Hi, I think this is one of those Chinese fake swords. Who is selling it? Is it from the "site"?

The sword is all wrong in my humble opinion. Maybe some others will jump in on this one.

    Regards, Steve

Hi camry , in a very short explanation , the fittings to the sword are not shin gunto ( or standard army hilt and crossguard ) and most , but not all , swords that were not arsenal manufactured , (i.e. an old family sword ) had the tangs shortened or altered to suit the shorter length of the military tsuka (grip ) . A Japanese sword blade does not have this kind of " damascus " pattern to it and looks to be acid etched , on to what is a phoney blade pretending to be something much better !!! The scabbard is rubbish also , and , as has been stated by very knowledgable people here , steer well clear of it ! Hope this helps ..........Al

Japanese swords are not my strong area (what is) but I am learning fast, having owned 3 very nice original examples, in as many months. I agree that it is chinese junk. They could be bought from e bay a couple of years ago I think the buy it now price was £1.50 with a £40 shipping fee
