Hello forum, I bought this medal at a local show on Sunday. I know the sword means the soldier was a combatant, but what does the star represent?

Wish I could help, but I like your medal! I think that stars on U.S. ribbons represent jumps and landings for different battles. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Not quite sure what they mean for Italian medals.
The star on Italian medal ribbons stands for a second award of the medal and are not often seen. Nice catch.

It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more. R. SCOTT.

Interesting info. Good catch.
SWEET! thanks Ned! i never thought a campaign medal would be awarded a second time. Ive also learned that some of these medals have a "letter code" A-F for different mints. mine has the letter C. are there some mints that are harder to find than others?
