Interesting that there are no strings or cords for attaching to a pole.
Do you think it may be a souvenir flag.........?
Regards,
Steve.
That may be the case Steve, with out cord holes all i could think of would be a flag for framing or a wall flag attached with pins or pressure ?

G'day Morris,
There are some examples that may interest you on the AWM site mate.
All the best cobber

Thanks Dave, The AWM has a good library, all of their flags are flagpole or navy flags. I am perplexed now about this flag.

what about a vehicle or tank flag for Air Identification ?

The material and construction-along with the slightly faded printing-all suggest that it is either war-era of somewhat earlier, in my opinion. What is it's size? Could it be something akin to the personal flags that the Japanese soldiers used to carry? Or, if it large enough, could it be a Funeral flag? A vehicle flag would still require some sort of way to attach it-usually eyelets on all 4 corners.

21 inches by 15 inches
Too small for vehicle or funeral then. There's no edge on it to hang it in any case and never was any. It's quite possible this was possibly a personal flag.
