An interesting fake SA and a first for me also. I have seen this form of over engineered box before and if I remember correctly, one of the main distributors of these horrors is a dealer based in Italy. To be perfectly honest, I have never really taken much notice of these buckles, although for the ones that I have seen, they have and from memory, been predominantly a one piece moulding.

The SA roundel displayed on the fake and by the design, is one that constantly haunts me.

By coincidence, there has been a very recent thread within the SA buckle sub forum where three buckles were submitted, as those displaying upright, sun wheel and mobile swastikas.

I responded and provided images of two SA buckles with mobile swastikas, where the roundels matched that as originally started the said thread. All the buckles by the way and of course to include the one with the mobile swastika were considered to be original examples. No second thoughts in this respect I should add.

Attached is a photo merge of the roundel from this post and which is flanked by two roundels which form part of the previously mentioned thread. Three roundels, as one fake and two as original, however the trio are all similar by design. I accept that the fake roundel does not provide the same detail as the other two, however this perhaps is simply a digital aberration. The fake appears to show a pebbled effect to the clear areas of the roundel, however this may be the result of poor casting or again, low resolution images.

    An curious roundel !

    Regards and best wishes,

    David
